Making a decision on what window treatment to use is difficult. However, it does not have to be, relaxed roman shades are the perfect solution to your window treatment needs. Making relaxed roman shades is quite easy to do. Obtain the following items, scissors, measuring tape, sewing machine, fabric, and heavy duty glue and toggle cord. The finished shade will have horizontal pleats when it is up and when down it will lay against the widow pane. Next step decide if you are going to mount them inside the window frame or outside the frame. This will determine the size of the roman shade. First put the mounting board up and cover it with fabric to match the shade. Place metal screw eyes every 12 inches to thread the toggle chord through for raising and lowering the shade when done. Now cut the fabric about 2 inches wider than the mounting board and 6 inches longer than the window height. Now divide by 36 inches and you have yardage needed.
How to make relaxed roman shades takes a little patience. Now take a look at how many screw eyes are on the mounting board and add 5 inches to the length of the shade then multiply by number of rows and divide by 36 inches. The ring tape yardage will be this number. Now the fabric is cut and pin the edges making a rectangle with square corners on all sides. Sew the top and sides leave a 5/8 inch seam. On the bottom, make sure to leave a small opening. This allows the dowel to fit and be stitched.
Get the hot glue gun or tacks and attach shade to the mounting board. Stand back and check it out and see that it is still long enough. Get the pull cord and thread it on through the rings. Also, thread through the screw eyes and cut off excess chord. Now lower the shade and make a knot. Try to raise and lower new relaxed roman shade to ensure it is working properly.
Purchasing relaxed roman blinds expect to pay $35 to $200 per window depending on the size needed to cover. Popular brands are Thomas Kinkade, Chris Madden to name a few. There are many brands available online. Remember to measure the window correctly so the new relaxed roman shades will fit perfect.
